A former commissioner for education, science, and technology in Ekiti State, Kehinde Ojo, has expressed concern over the declining level of moral discipline in primary and secondary schools across the country.

He advocated for a return to an era of corrective discipline for students to foster a better and more upright society in the future.

Ojo made these remarks over the weekend during the 25th anniversary and homecoming ceremony of the 1993/99 set of Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The frontline educationist explained that any government regulations that prevent the moderate use of corporal punishment and other effective methods of discipline in secondary schools would lead to regrettable moral decay and character flaws in the future.

He called on stakeholders to adopt policies that would guide the younger generation toward a successful future and emphasized the need for consistency in policy formulation to advance the nation’s education sector.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the 1993/99 Set, Babatola Anthony, commended members for their commitment and dedication to the development of their alma mater.

Describing the set as unique, Anthony explained that members had made significant impacts in less than ten years after leaving the school.

He acknowledged that the level of discipline enforced by school principals and teachers at the time, though sometimes regarded as harsh, was instrumental in shaping the successful members of the set who could now give back to the school.

The old students presented customized school bags, notepads, and other essential materials to the students, while outstanding students received cash awards.

One of the major highlights of the celebration was the presentation of an architectural model for a proposed sports complex for the school, named the Henry Dallimore Sports Complex.

The week-long celebrations featured a series of activities, including taking some classes to impart knowledge and hosting a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) practical session for students.
