A former governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has resigned as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former governor disclosed this in his resignation in a letter addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Kaura ward, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna state, with no reason for his decision.
“With gratitude to almighty Allah, I write to extend my sincere greetings and to formally inform you of my decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party.
“In view of this, I hereby tender my resignation as a member of PDP with effect from 30th September 2023. Enclosed herewith is my party membership card duly returned,” the letter partly read.
This came 48 hours after the state election petition tribunal dismissed the petition of the PDP’s candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru, in the March 18 governorship election.
Mr Yero, deputy governor under the late Patrick Yakowa administration, later became the substantive governor following his principal’s death in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa.
He was, however, defeated in the 2015 elections by immediate past Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
