Immediate past commissioner for Women’s Affairs in Kwara state, Dr Mopelola Abdulmalik Bashir, has been appointed to lead a think tank to develop a policy document on the future of politics and governance in the state.

In a statement by the convener of ‘Kwara Must Change’, a pro-democracy group in the state, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, he described O to ge movement that brought in present administration into office as a new start for Kwara state, saying that people expected every successive government to do better than the last.

The statement also said that the group aimed to develop a policy direction for the next administration to consolidate the gains of the political liberation, strengthen weaknesses identified in the current political system, expand scope of governance coverage, enhance economic capacity of the state, sustain data based developmental approach, build more human capacity and rebuild political capacity.

He also said that the pro-democracy group decided to set up the think tank, headed by Bashir; a political activist, to develop a policy document for the post o to ge administration, which it themed, post o to ge project (POP2027).

According to Hamzat, Mopelola led POP2027 think tank will not only produce a policy document, the committee will also develop an implementation framework, Monitoring and observation template as well as priority focus on the scale of preference.

“Kwara Must Change is planning for the future by making this significant effort to solidify and guide future direction in the post otoge era rather than be stuck in the Otoge movement’s initial success.

“Kwara Must Change is, therefore, committed to building a development based polity, where issues of governance and development is the driving force of our politics.”
