A former presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, has congratulated Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri on his re-election for a second term in office. He expressed that with this victory, there is no doubt that the people of Bayelsa State are now set to reap more dividends of democracy from Diri, whom he described as a pride of the party.
In the keenly contested Bayelsa State Governorship Election, Governor Diri polled 175,196 votes to defeat his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 110,108 votes, while the Labour Party (LP) candidate polled 905 votes.
Anakwenze conveyed his congratulations in a letter personally signed by him, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Lagos. He also extended his congratulations to other governors on the PDP platform whose elections were recently affirmed by the Court of Appeal.
The former presidential aspirant, emphasizing that Diri’s victory was well-deserved, described him as a “Miracle Governor” and a superlative gift to the country. He noted that even during the campaigns, the Bayelsa State helmsman “was busy commissioning, inaugurating, and flagging off new projects executed by his miracle administration across the state, even in the constituency and hometown of his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the APC.”
“This well-deserved re-election is a loud testimony by the people of Bayelsa State that they appreciate the superlative performance of Governor Diri in his first four years in office.
“It is a reconfirmation, and indeed a renewal of the confidence that the people not only of Bayelsa State but of the entire South-South Region, and of Nigeria, have in our great party, the PDP, as their favourite party,” the PDP chieftain said.
Dr Anakwenze, therefore, enjoined Governor Diri to see his re-election for a second term in office as a call to service and another great opportunity to distinguish himself and beat his record of achievements during his first term in office by “working selflessly in the service of the whole people of Bayelsa State.”
“I advise Governor Diri to see his reelection for a second term in office as a call to service and another great opportunity to distinguish himself and beat his record of achievements in the past four years as a miracle governor working selflessly in the service of the whole people of Bayelsa State,” he said.
