In what appears as a new and shocking twist to the Ondo State Governorship crisis, eleven members of the State House of Assembly are allegedly planning to declare the Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, as incapacitated and proclaim the embattled Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as Acting Governor.
Series of secret meetings reportedly took place in Abuja, in the last three days where each of the eleven members allegedly received a “mobilisation of $10,000.”
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the State, Engr Ade Adetimehin, was alleged to be present at two of the meetings.
It is also alleged that some Northern Governors are involved in this move, seen as opportunity to get at Governor Akeredolu, for his stance on the Southern Presidency and his
strong voice against the issue of killer herdsmen as well as anti-open grazing.
“Aiyedatiwa, backed by the state APC chairman, Adetimehin, has joined forces with certain individuals from Northern Nigeria to undermine Governor Akeredolu.
“The discontent among the Northerners stems from Governor Akeredolu’s firm position on the anti-open grazing law,” a source told our reporter.
The source further disclosed that plot to declare the governor incapacitated and install Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor is scheduled to take place this Friday, 24 November, 2024.
A member of the State House of Assembly who preferred anonymity said “What these people don’t understand is that the State Executive Council will have to initiate the move to get a Medical Panel to assess the governor’s health condition first, before the House of Assembly can take any step.
“That those involved in the plot are even only 11 out of the 26 members of the House further makes it unconstitutional and lacking in legitimacy.”
