A rights activist and Chairman of the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, has backed the Osun monarch, Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, over the killing of his cousin, Saheed Olabomi, by a trigger happy police officer, Sergeant Adamu Garuba.
Speaking on the issue through a signed press statement, Sulaiman called on the Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman, the Chairman, Police Service Commission and the Minister of Police Affairs, to take immediate necessary action on the officer and his cohorts alleged of committing dastard act.
The right activist demanded that the concerned authorities ensured that they make them available in court to face prosecution in the death of Olabomi.
While urging the Police authorities to fish-out Sergeant Garuba and his fellow-travellers to face the consequence of the crime they committed in the Court of law, Sulaiman added that doing so will serve as deterrent to others.
The CHRSJ Chief added that the rights group would soon write a petition letter to the appropriate quarters for their necessary action on the subject matter.
Olabomi was shot on Tuesday, July 27, 2021,during the gridlock at the Oke-Oniti area of Osogbo.
Oba Olabomi had during a Press conference held at his Palace in Iragbiji last week alleged that the Osun Command of the Nigeria Police was shielding Sergeant Garuba from the law over Saheed’s killing despite the report of the autopsy claiming that he died as a result of gunshot fire on his face by Garuba.
The Osun monarch had also maintained that the Police have refused to make the Garuba and his cohorts available in court for their trial.
Oba Olabomi noted that, “Since the incidence, the Nigeria Police Osun State Command led by Mr. Olawale Olokode, the Commandant Mopol 39, Mr Sebastian Moorkwap whose aides are the person who committed the act and especially the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone XI Mr. Mukan Joseph Gobum have conspired to sweep the ignoble act of criminality of the personnel under the carpet.” Continue Reading
