Hundreds of commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders), tricycle operators (Maruwa), and mini-bus drivers (Korope) in Oriade State Constituency trooped out en masse on Sunday to benefit from the Ilerioluwa Free Fuel Initiative. The program, sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly aspirant, Mr. Fanimokun Samuel Ibikunle, was held in Ijebu-Ijesa, the headquarters of Oriade Local Government.
The initiative, aimed at alleviating the impact of rising fuel costs, is part of Mr. Fanimokun’s commitment to the welfare of his constituency. Announcing the program days earlier in Ward 3, Ijebu-Ijesa, Mr. Fanimokun pledged to distribute free fuel to 11,500 residents of Oriade Local Government.
During Sunday’s event in Ijebu-Ijesa, over 500 beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, which many described as timely and impactful amidst the current economic challenges.
Beneficiaries Speak on the Initiative, Tosin Ajisafe, an Okada rider from Erinmo-Ijesa, commended Mr. Fanimokun for his compassion and foresight. “This initiative is a relief for us, especially with the ongoing challenges caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy. I urge other wealthy individuals to emulate this philanthropic gesture to bring succor to people like us,” he said.
Another beneficiary, who preferred to remain anonymous, highlighted the program’s importance: “This is a laudable effort. Many of us here rely on our vehicles for daily income, and this gesture eases some of the burdens we face.”
Prominent APC leaders in Oriade Local Government also praised Mr. Fanimokun for his efforts to mobilize support for the party ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections.
Hon. Kayode Ajewole, popularly known as Golo, from Ipetu-Ijesa, Hon. Bunmi Obeisun, former chairman of Oriade Local Government, and Hon. Lasun Ogunsanya, APC Chairman in Oriade Local Government, commended Fanimokun for demonstrating leadership and commitment to the party’s success.
“This initiative is not just about fuel; it reflects his dedication to the welfare of our people and the future of our party. Young politicians like Mr. Fanimokun are proving that the youth can lead effectively,” Hon. Obeisun stated.
The Ilerioluwa Free Fuel Initiative has become a beacon of hope for many in the constituency. Over 500 Okada riders, tricycle operators, and Korope drivers benefitted from the program, marking it as a significant intervention in a time of economic difficulty.
Mr. Fanimokun Samuel Ibikunle continues to position himself as a grassroots mobilizer and advocate for the people’s welfare, further strengthening his candidacy and his role within the APC.
