In a bid to combat malnutrition among vulnerable children in Northern Nigeria, Farm Alert has launched “Eggs of Hope,” an initiative under its Project Sadakat program.

This innovative project utilizes crowdfunding to provide eggs, a rich source of essential nutrients, to children in need as a way to balance their diet.

Dr Femi Kayode, Founder of Farm Alert in a statement, said by providing a consistent source of protein and essential nutrients through eggs, the project directly addresses malnutrition in children. This leads to improved physical health, growth, and cognitive development.

He said it is also important to note that proper nutrition strengthens immune systems, reducing the risk of illness and disease among children, leading to lower mortality rates and a better quality of life.

“And by providing essential nutrients, “Eggs of Hope” can contribute to improved cognitive function, concentration, and learning abilities in children, leading to better educational outcomes.

“The project hopes to provide a stable market for local poultry farmers, increasing their income and financial stability. This empowers them to invest further in their farms, leading to sustainable livelihoods”, Dr Kayode noted.

The official launch event which took place at the Farm Alert office in Abuja was attended by Hauwa Liman, Technical Adviser to the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Women, Youth Engagement, and Impact who was the keynote speaker.

“Eggs of Hope” employs a simple and effective crowdfunding model where individuals donate 200 naira, the equivalent of the cost of one egg.

“These funds are then used to purchase eggs directly from local farmers, empowering them economically while ensuring a consistent supply of fresh, nutritious eggs.

“The collected eggs are however distributed to vulnerable schools and communities in Northern Nigeria, where malnutrition poses a significant threat to children’s health and development.

“This direct approach ensures that the aid reaches those who need it most, effectively combating the detrimental effects of malnutrition.

“Farm Alert however, urged individuals and organizations to join the fight against malnutrition by participating in the “Eggs of Hope” initiative”, the statement added.
