

A group of rural farmers in Kwara state, under the aegis of the Millennium United Rural Farmers Foundation (MURF), has commended efforts of the state government aimed at revitalising agriculture and deepening rural development.
A statement by the farmers, through their national president, Aremu Shuaib Alawaye, said that such government efforts, made through provision of infrastructure and enabling environment for the rural farmers and dwellers had helped to bolster sustainable economic growth and development.

The group, which lauded the government’s efforts in the distribution of agricultural inputs in 2024 through NAGS-AP, also identified other initiatives provided to farmers in clusters at Kaiama, Baruten, Moro, Asa, Edu, Patigi, and Ifelodun local government areas, etc.
“We also commend the government for supporting us with tractors, extension services and facilitation of private investments to Kwara state”, Alawaye said, adding that two investors, AMO BYNG and GBEMTAN, were attracted for outgrowing of soybeans in Kwara state to boost rural development and food security.
However, while commending the government for its 2024 investments and achievements in agricultural and rural development, the group urged the government to double its investments in 2025 to further accelerate agricultural and rural development for a sustainable economic growth and development.
“These investments will drive and bolster efficient farming, output, food security, job creation and employment opportunities for our teeming youth and women, improved commercial and economic activities through the agricultural value chain”, he said.
Also speaking, the national coordinator and secretary of the group, Mr. Akeem Adio, commended the state commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas for her contributions to the revitalization of agriculture and rural development.
“She leads the ministry very well and we are proud of her humility, integrity, hardwork, smartwork and exceptional commitment to productivity and excellence.
“She facilitated a lot of support services from federal government, state government, international partners and private investors to accelerate agricultural and rural development in the state.
“She has written her name in gold in the record of the Ministry as a successful administrator”
The NGO praised the clusters at APATALAJE, GBAJIBO, MOSHE-GBOFA, GWASORRO, IDI APA and commodity associations; AFAN, FACAN and particularly Nigerian Soybeans Association for their dedication to agricultural development.
The NGO commended Dr. Bello, State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Perm Sec. and Directors at the State Ministry of Agriculture, ADP, for the supports.
It also Recognised contributions of the following institutions: CBN, NIRSAL PLC, NIRSAL MFB, BOI, Niger River Basin, ARMTY, NCAM, Kwara State Police Command, NSCDC, Army, DSS etc.
The foundation also appreciated the traditional rulers under the chairmanship of Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, CFR for their fatherly roles in supporting farmers and government in driving the agricultural and rural development revolution in their communities.
Emirs of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Umar, Kiyaru III, Emir of Yashikira, Seriki Rahi of Gbajibo and Lamido Baani were also appreciated for making their communities attractive for farming and investments.
He said that the non-governmental organization is committed to promoting green revolution, food security and poverty alleviation through rural farmers development and empowerment.
