FCTA pledges support for house committee on oversight functions

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has pledged its commitment to support members of the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters in the discharge of their constitutional oversight functions.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, made this commitment at the inauguration of the FCT Committee on Area Councils and Ancillary Matters held at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The minister, who noted that the committee plays a crucial role in addressing the diverse issues within the Federal Capital Territory, however, commended members for their dedication to serving communities in the FCT.

According to her, “the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Committee on Area Council and Ancillary Matters typically performs functions related to the administration, development, and coordination of activities in the area councils within the FCT.

“This includes but is not limited to, overseeing local governance, infrastructure development, and addressing ancillary issues that impact the overall well-being of the residents in the Territory.

“It also plays a crucial role in ensuring effective local governance and the implementation of policies at the grassroots level within the Federal Capital Territory.”.

Mahmoud, therefore, assured that the FCT Administration would work together with the committee towards the development and betterment of residents of the territory and visitors alike.

Earlier, Hon. Agbedi Fred, Chairman, House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, had solicited the support of the FCT Administration in the areas of tourism, revenue drive, development of rural infrastructure, sports, chieftaincy affairs, and other sundry matters.

He also assured that the committee would continue to legislate on policies that would help accelerate development across the area councils.
