Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Dr. Lateef Olatunji with other principal officers and management staff have flagged off a free medical check up program organized for all staff of the Polytechnic.
The Polytechnic management through medical center have taken up the initiative and responsibility to organize free medical check up in order to enhance the health status of all staff and enable them to be hale and hearty.
During flag off program, the Rector advised all staff to take health care as priority and use the free opportunity to submit themselves for comprehensive check up at the Polytechnic medical centers.
He said, a country, organization or institution with good health care system experience growth and development because health is wealth.
The Rector emphasized the commitment of the management towards training and re-training of staff and improvement on health care. While commissioning a new haematology analyzer machine procured for the medical center, Dr. Olatunji pledged more support to improve more on health facilities in medical centers.
He further acknowledged the tremendous efforts of staff of medical centers in the face of Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the world and assured the Polytechnic health workers of continuous support from the management.
The Acting Medical Director of the Polytechnic, Dr. Bisi Omotosho enunciates the benefit and impact of the check up on staff. He said the management in collaboration with the medical center came up with idea of having annual comprehensive check up for staff to prevent mortalities due to non communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, obesity, prostrate cancer…etc.
Dr. Omotoho noted that early detention or identification of any disease or ailment give chance of getting treatment quickly and help to avoid complications. He stressed further that early detection will increase lifespan, reduce health cost by avoiding costly medical services and reduce loss of working hour as a result of non communicable diseases.
According to him: “Regular medical check-ups can help find potential health issues before they become a problem. When you see your health-care giver regularly, they are able to detect health conditions or diseases early. Early detection gives you the best chance for getting the right treatment quickly and avoiding any complications.”
While commending the management led by Dr. Olatunji for creating a befitting opportunity for medical check up, he implored the polytechnic community to take the free medical check up seriously as these diseases are the common cause of sudden death.
