Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Disabilities and Special Needs, Hon. Miriam Onuoha (APC-Imo) on Wednesday formally declared her intention to vie for the position of the 10th Assembly Speaker, with a promise to embark on Institutional reforms and cordial Executive-Legislature relations that would engender good governance.

Hon. Onuoha who gave the assurance during the press briefing held in Abuja reeled out 7-point agenda with the slogan: ‘The Unity Assembly’.

Other leading male counterparts who have formally declared intention to contest for the position of the Number Four Citizen are the incumbent Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Wase; incumbent Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara; Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi; Chairman, House Committee on Media & Public Affairs, Hon. Benjamin Kalu; and Chairman, House Committee on Disaster Preparedness, Hon. Abdulraheem Olawuyi.

However, four lawmakers, namely: Hon. Tajudeen Abbas (APC-Kaduna); Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji (APC-Zamfara); Sada Soli (APC-Katsina) and Hon. Makki Abubakar Yalleman (APC-Jigawa) are yet to formally declare intentions.

Hon. Onuoha who is the only returning female lawmaker from the South East geopolitical zones into the 10th Assembly, said: “I will introduce periodic strategic Legislative-Executive dialogue for effective intervention by National Assembly.

“This would engender periodic meetings of the Executive and leadership of the Legislature periodically so that issues of national importance that bothered the nation will be critically addressed and members will also be briefed at intervals for better understanding of policies of government.

“So that the Legislature can interpret it and re-present to the public in form of bills and motions to answer the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians; and create opportunity for National Assembly – stakeholders’ engagement; as well as provide access for public participatory governance and law-making process and improve public awareness of role of the legislature”.
