The Federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, economic reforms, and security efforts amidst recent protests and challenges facing the country.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, while addressing the diplomatic corps on Wednesday, provided an extensive briefing on the government’s response to the protests and its efforts to address the concerns of Nigerians.
Tuggar said the President understands the pain and frustration that drive the protests and has assured that his government is committed to listening and addressing the concerns of Nigerians.
“We are working hard to address the economic challenges confronting our country, and we solicit the understanding and collaboration of the diplomatic corps in our efforts to achieve a better life for every Nigerian.”
Tuggar also highlighted the government’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the abolition of multiple foreign exchange systems, which he said had blocked the greed and profits of smugglers and rent-seekers.
“These actions have given us more financial freedom and the room to spend more money on our citizens, to fund essential social services like education and healthcare,” he explained.
The Minister also mentioned the government’s efforts to complete infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, railways, power, and oil and gas developments. “We are working to complete inherited projects critical to our economic prosperity, and we are seeing significant progress in these areas,” he said.

“We will not tolerate foreign interference in our domestic affairs, and we will take appropriate action against any foreign entity found to be supporting protesters or interfering in our internal affairs.”
Tuggar also addressed the government’s efforts to empower youth and stimulate economic growth, including the establishment of the Student Loan Scheme, Consumer Credit Corporation, and youth empowerment programs.
“We are committed to creating opportunities for our young people, and we are seeing significant progress in these areas,” he said.
Tuggar reiterated the government’s commitment to democracy, economic reforms, and security efforts.
“We are in a new era of Renewed Hope, and we are working hard to deliver on our promises to Nigerians.”
“We value the cordial relationships between Nigeria and your individual countries and organizations, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration and partnership,” he added.
