The Federal Ministry of Health has begun three weeks certificate and license verification for community health practitioners
The ceremony was performed by the Minister of State for health, Dr Adeleke Mamora on Monday, in Abuja.
”The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has zero tolerance for corruption; presenting oneself without being trained, certified and licensed is one form of corruption,” Mamora said.
He urged regulatory bodies to wipe out quacks in the sector and assured them of government’s continuous support for training and licensing of health workers.
According to him, Buhari is not resting on his oars to ensure quality health personnel that are adequately motivated to deliver good and affordable health services to Nigerians.
Earlier, Mr Sule Toma, Chairman Community Health Practioners Registration Board of Nigeria ( CHPRBN), explained that operation show your certificate and licence would help the board to stamp out quackery among community health practitioners
Toma noted that community health practice revolved around promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services to the people, regardless of where they were resident and worked.
The Registrar, Chief Executive Officer of CHPRBN, Mal Bashir Idris, on his part, said the vision of primary healthcare was meeting the people’s health care needs.
Idris listed the needs to include comprehensive promotion of good and healthy living, protection and prevention of health related diseases, among others.
He therefore said the board could not afford to host quacks using fake certificates and licences.
He noted that the world was facing critical health challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Ebola and other dangerous infectious diseases that needed serious steps to be taken in addressing such.
”It is a fact that community health practitioners are the closest to communities, therefore we cannot afford to take risks with the quality of health personnel attending to over 70 per cent of citizens.
”The exercise is to ensure that only professionals are entrusted with the health care and management of the citizens in Nigeria,” Idris said.
Nationnewslead reports that the launch of the exercise was witness by some dignitaries from the national assembly and hundreds of students from community health institutions.
