Hearing into the case of alleged vote-buying and money laundering instituted against the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, and four others, by the federal government, began on Thursday, at the Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta.
At the proceedings presided over by Justice Abiodun Akinyemi, five suspects appeared before the court, while Adebutu and four other accused persons were conspicuously absent.
Goody Uche SAN, announced his appearance for Adebutu, who had been outside the shores of the country, since April 2023, on the grounds of “medical vacation”, while Chief Rotimi Jacobs SAN appeared as the prosecution counsel.
52 Automated Teller Machines cards with the name Dame Caroline Adebutu Foundation; a PDP polling agent tag and a motorcycle that the four suspects were riding on on the day of arrest were admitted as exhibits.
Two witnesses were presented by INEC for cross-examination including a POS operator who claimed he earned commission on the ten thousand naira transactions of the debit cards.
The hearing in the case continues on Friday (today) as agreed by both parties.
