FG inaugurates alumni projects worth N200m at Suleja Academy

The Federal Government on Saturday inaugurated some projects worth over N200 million executed by the Alumni Association of the Federal Government Academy, Suleja, Niger State as give back to the institution that made them.

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, who commissioned the projects on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, said the provision of the facilities by the old students of the Academy was a testament to the enduring legacy of the great institution, which continues to mold the minds of the nation’s brightest children.

The Federal Government Academy, Suleja is a special School for nurturing gifted and talented children with the aim of providing opportunities for the exceptionally gifted students to develop at their own pace in the interest of the nation’s economic and technological development.

The institution was founded on 25th May, 1990, during the tenure of Professor Jubril Aminu as the Minister of Education.

Permanent Secretary, Sani-Gwarzo, was represented by the Director, Secondary Education, Binta Abdulkadir, noted the facilities being commissioned would not only enhance the learning environment but also instill a sense of pride and responsibility among the students.

The projects inaugurated include, renovation of both male and female hostels, School Clinic, installation of Solar system, construction of toilets with fittings as well as water reticulation among others.

Sani-Gwarzo, described the projects as historic undertaken by the alumni of the Federal Government Academy, Suleja a school that has consistently upheld its mission of nurturing gifted and talented children for national and global excellence.

He said, “Today is more than just the commissioning of structures or facilities. It is also a testament to the commitment and gratitude of its alumni, who have returned to give back to the institution that played a pivotal role in shaping their future.

“Since its inception, the Federal Government Academy has stood as a beacon of hope and innovation in education.

“This school has not only catered to gifted and talented children but has also challenged them to realize their full potential.

“As we look around and witness the contributions of the alumni, it is clear that the foundation laid here is yielding tremendous results,” he stated.

He applauded the efforts of the alumni for their commitment to the noble cause by investing in the projects, saying members of the Association have demonstrated an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education and the critical role this academy plays in shaping future leaders.

“Your contributions serve as an inspiration to current students, showing them that the values of hard work, service, and patriotism are not merely taught here-they are lived out in the lives of graduates in every nation, alumni associations play a critical role in advancing their alma mater and society.

“This initiative is a perfect example of how collaboration between past and present students can bridge generational gaps and contribute to the sustained development of education in Nigeria,” he added.

He urged the students to make the most of this opportunity, remain disciplined, and continue striving for excellence.

He also commended the management, teachers, and staff, for their dedication and relentless efforts in ensuring that the institution remains a hub of excellence.

The School Principal, Ismau Abdullahi, on her part, revealed that the investment in the projects by the Alumni Association was worth almost N200 million, saying this would value and lasting impact the students and the entire School community.

While commending the Alumni Association for remembering their root, by provision of conducive environment for teaching and learning, assured them that the facilities would be put into good use and properly maintained to ensure durability.

According to the students of the institution, the major challenges confronting the Academy are lack of electricity and water, which they noted have been addressed by the gesture of the school Alumni Association with the provisions of Solar system that would help in pumping water in the institution.

President of the Alumni Association, Dapo Adesina, said the projects were initiated by the 2004 set of the institution with the support of all other alma maters.
