In furtherance of efforts to make stakeholders comply with compulsory insurance, the Federal Government has launched an initiative to persuade the state governors and Houses of Assembly to domesticate insurance laws in their various jurisdictions.

As part of the ongoing initiatives spearheaded by the Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive, National Insurance Commission, Mr Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, the second meeting of the Insurance of Public Buildings and Buildings under Construction Committee was held in Abuja.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Mr Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon, who serves as the Committee Chairman, emphasised the importance of the committee’s national assignment on developing a methodology to ensure compliance with the insurance of public buildings and buildings under construction.

While welcoming the committee members representing various stakeholder institutions, Mr Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon said the effort aims to enhance the uptake of insurance in these sectors.

According to the NAICOM, “The day’s deliberations focused on identifying and exploring synergies with stakeholders, liaising with state governors and Houses of Assembly to domesticate insurance laws for better compliance, researching similar policies in other jurisdictions and sensitising stakeholders on the importance of adherence to compliance with compulsory insurances.”
