The Archbishop, Metropolitan, and Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev (Dr) Henry C. Ndukuba has expressed confidence that the economic policies being implemented by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration will yield positive results.
Speaking at this year’s Divine Commonwealth Conference (DIVVCON) with the theme ‘Peace be Still’, Primate Ndukuba pointed out the need to revive some moribund industries, especially the textile industries.
“We thank God that the Lord is working through the government, we thank God for the policies that are being implemented, especially the physical economic structures that are being put in place.
“I was delighted to hear that state funding is not only for building structures in our higher institutions but also to encourage research, innovations, and industrialisation.
“Our situation will not be solved by giving palliatives only, there is the need to revive our industries, especially the textile mills.
“If we will have five textile mills functioning in the North, a great number of our youth will be employed because they will work day and night,” he said.
He however said it is not unnatural for Nigerians to express anxiety and worry because of the hardship and insecurity currently experienced in some parts of the country.
“It is natural to be anxious, it is natural to be concerned and worry, and oftentimes, in that worry, we lose direction. I want to tell you that most Nigerians are worried, they are anxious, they are in fear, not only fear of their own lives, but they are not even sure of where the next food will come from.
“When people cannot move freely because of insecurity, and when people cannot move freely because of the state of infrastructure, when people cannot even feed, and when people cannot be sure of the future of their family, they are bound to be anxious, and it is in this situation, it is like we are facing a storm and none of us has the solution, it is in such a situation that the word of God is coming to us.
“When Jesus spoke to the storm and the wind that came upon him and his disciples on the Sea of Galilee, he stood and said; “peace be still”. I am believing God and we are trusting God that the Lord the Almighty will surely intervene in Nigeria’s situation.
“There is hope for Nigeria, there is hope for our people. As the word of God came to us, the dawn would soon be”, be noted.
Furthermore, the clergy called on the government to partner with industries and institutions to empower youth and they will turn around the country for the better.
“Let the government partner with industrialists, institutions and I know that our Universities and Polytechnics are capable.
“China is not better than us, look at Iran, they are already producing weapons to fight their wars and we are busy doing business, looking for importers for such weapons and they will be dumping the things that are not good in Nigeria.
“Let us encourage our young people, these graduates that have nothing to do, if the government will gather them in zones and give them a task, release these billions that are being stolen and task them to turn Nigeria into a super technological society in 5 years, I know that our sons and daughters will do it, we don’t need outsiders to do it, lets us challenge our young people and you will see Nigeria turn around”, he added.
