No fewer than fifteen internally displaced persons in Benue State have suffered snakes bite.
The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, James Iorpuu announced this during the distribution of relief materials to Idps across the fourteen designated camps and a refugee camp in the state.
He said that the affected displaced persons were however successfully treated.
According to him, “In recent months, Benue-SEMA has faced the tragic challenge of snake bites among our IDP populations.

” | am pleased to report that we have successfully treated over 15 cases across various camps, thanks to the swift action of our health teams and the support from our partners.
Iorpuu also stated that the agency had fumigated all the camps including Ikyogen camp to curtail the occurrence of snake bites and called on partners, both local and international, to continue to support the state in the area of snake bites.
The SEMA boss said that World Bank would soon commence the construction of 50 units of shelter in Nyihemba in Kwande LGA of the state.
At the same time, he stated that the agency would would soon begins IDP farm projects in Kwande, Logo, and Gwer-West local government areas of the state.
He said that the farms are not just about food production; they represent hope, empowerment, and self-reliance for our displaced communities.
They will allow our IDPs to contribute to their well-being, while also addressing food insecurity in the camps.
Already, Iorpuu said that the state governor had donated a tractor for the IDP farm projects towards ensuring the success of the farm initiative.
“We are grateful for his (governor) dedication to the welfare of our displaced people, and this gesture will surely go a long way in improving their lives,” he said.
