Five people were on Wednesday injured in an auto crash involving a police patrol van and a commercial bus near Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The police vehicle was reportedly driving against traffic when it collided head-on with the commercial bus, which was traveling from Berger toward Otedola Bridge.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the accident to the Nigerian Tribune.
The LASEMA boss stated that “A road traffic accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, specifically on the outward Berger inward Otedola Bridge section.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a mini yellow commercial bus (Korope) registration number KEY 301 XB was involved in an accident.”
According to Oke- Osanyintolu “Further investigations revealed that the bus involved in a head-on collision with a police patrol van that was driving against traffic (one-way).”
He stressed that “Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded in the incident. Five (5) occupants of the bus, including the driver and conductor, sustained various degrees of injuries.”
The injured victims received immediate medical attention from the Agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit and LASAMBUS while two of the victims were subsequently transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
The LASEMA boss noted that “The affected bus was recovered from the road and moved to a lay-by with the aid of the Agency’s Lite Tow truck.”
