The Federal Government has tasked state governors to ensure adequate provision of more drainages in their various states to avert the incessant flooding in the country.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, made the call on Thursday at the flag-off of the distribution of relief items to victims of flood disaster.
She said President Muhammadu Buhari is disturbed by the terrible flood incident that resulted in the death of many people and the loss of properties in the country.
The Minister explained that most of the incidents of rain disasters can be managed or minimized through the provision of more drainages, ensuring better land use and regulation.
“Let me use today’s occasion to seek the support of all to forestall the next round of flooding and ensure that it comes with minimal impact”
“I am therefore calling States and local governments to continue to provide more and more drainages, ensure better land use and regulation.
“I also enjoin the communities to maintain the existing drainages and avoid manipulation of streams and basins” she stated. Continue Reading
