The Nigerian Army has two powerful mechanized divisions; the first mechanized division of Nigerian Army is in Kaduna State, where the Nigerian Defence Academy is located while the second mechanized division is located in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State. The Nigerian Defence Academy has been in existence since February 5, 1964 and it has produced very important and wonderful military personnel.
It is a military university that is saddled with the responsibility of training military officers. Those who are schooling at the Nigerian Defence Academy will graduate as cadets with the rank of Second Lieutenant. It is more likely for those who graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy to become General in the Nigerian Army before bowing out of the force.
Ibadan has enough unused hectares of land which I believe the Oyo State Government can allocate to the presidency to establish another Nigerian Defence Academy. The question to be asked is this: Is Nigeria ripe for a NDA to be established in Ibadan? I will say yes. Nigeria population keeps increasing and we have a lot of young school leavers who are determined to go to the Nigerian Defence Academy to defend their nation but it is difficult for some because the capacity of the school can’t take all of them.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should look into this and seek Senate approval for a NBA to be located in Ibadan because it is the second mechanized division of Nigerian Army; I see no reason why Ibadan must not have its own Nigerian Defence Academy. I want to use this medium to commend our brave soldiers who have been fighting to protect all Nigerians.
