Author and Forbes Coaches Council member, Foluso Gbadamosi has advised parents to play an active role in guiding their children’s digital exploration.
Gbadamosi gave this advice during the launch of her books titled: ‘Unleash Your Superpower for Teens’, and ‘Companion Guide for Parents’, during the week in Lagos.
She stressed that there were many risks associated with unregulated social media use.
She told parents that the traditional method of parenting where parents dictate every aspect of their children’s lives no longer applies in the modern world.
She advised parents to guide their children against contents that are not age-appropriate for them.
Gbadamosi warned them that the contents could have negative impacts on their lives if not properly monitored even though internet offers plethora of opportunities.
“We need to be intentional about momitoring our children’s online activities.
“This is because the internet is recognised as a powerful tool. But, without the rightful boundaries, it can also be harmful,” she said.
She encouraged the teenagers to make good use of the digital space by leveraging the wealth of information available online.
Gbadamosi said the best way is to guide them towards making informed decision.
She, therefore, warned that failure to adapt to the realities of the digital age could hinder not only the personal growth of the teens but also the nation’s development.
Speaking on her launch of ‘Sponsor a student, sponsor a school’ campaign, she said the idea was to be able to reach those who could not afford the books.
According to her, people say that a lot of people dont like to read but a lot of people cannot afford to buy a book.
She noted that the campaign idea came from a place that they should buy books for those who could not afford to buy but would love to read.
