The Federal University Dutsin-Ma FUDMA in Katsina State is to honour Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu and three other notable Nigerians with an honorary degree at the University’s forthcoming Convocation ceremony.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Armaya’u Bichi disclosed this to newsmen in Dutsinma at the Pre-Convocation briefing.
Professor Bichi said, the First Lady bags the honor for the keen interest she expressed in female education and in particular the deepest concern and her firm stand on rescuing the female students of the University who were abducted by bandits sometime last year.
Bichi said, it’s worthy to mention the assistance of 2 million naira she gave to each of the students after they were rescued, in addition to the scholarship she offered to them throughout their studies.
According to the Vice Chancellor, in appreciation of her contribution, the University decided to award her with an honorary degree in politics.
Other notable leaders to be honoured with the honorary degrees at the Convocation coming up on Saturday 2nd November, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his style of leadership and Senator Aliyu Mgatakarda Wammako and the chairman appropriation committee of the House of Representatives Honorable Abubakar Aliyu Abubakar.
Bichi said, at the convocation ceremony, the University is going to award degrees to over 4000 students. He said among them are those who have successfully completed their PhD and Master’s degrees.
He hinted that 44 students are going to be awarded with 1st Class degrees while 872 are going to be awarded with 2nd Class degrees in various fields.
