The Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, will, on Saturday, confer honorary degrees on the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega and the co-founder of the Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Fola Adeola.
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olusola Kehinde, on Wednesday, at a press conference on the school 31st convocation ceremony, held at the Senate Building room of the institution.
He noted that the two eminent Nigerians have distinguished themselves in their various fields of human endeavors, and as such merited the honorary degrees as approved by the Senate Committee of the institution.
Kehinde explained that a total of 3,574 will be graduating with first and higher degrees.
While giving a breakdown, the VC stated that 122 students of the institution would be graduating with First Class degrees, 1,540 students bagged Second Class Higher Division and 1, 705 would receive certificates for Second Class Lower Division and 187 Third Class respectively.
He added that 138 students bagged Masters Degree with 48 receiving Doctoral degrees.
The VC maintained that the 36 years old institution had continued to churn out well baked graduates who are contributing their quota towards national development.
He submitted that the school would continued to deliver based on its teaching, research and community engagement.
Professor Kehinde equally informed that the institution is awaiting the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) doe eight new courses recently approved by the University Senate.
” In FUNAAB, we embark on teaching, research and community engagement. We have continued to turned out well baked graduates.
” We have collaborated with over 35 agencies. Collaborations that will make progress to the university.
” The university has been adjudged the best University of Agriculture in Africa and seventh-best in the world. We can contribute our own quota to food security in the state.
” We are in the process of launching eight new academic programmes and waiting for approval from National Universities Commission (NUC). Some of the programmes has to do with computer sciences.
” Some of the programmes are Data science, System Engineering, Cyber Security and Information Technology,” he said.
