Another set of 2,600 beneficiaries has been selected in Dukku LGA of Gombe State to receive food and non-food items as palliative to mitigate the harsh effects of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

The selection of the beneficiaries was made by the Gombe State Steering Committee for Distribution of Palliatives across the state during the flagging-off of distribution of the food and other non-food items in Dukku local government area as part of measures to cushion the hardship emanating from current global economic crises and fuel subsidy removal.

While performing the event at the Dukku Emir’s Palace on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau said that the intervention became necessary in view of the recent untold hardship the people are passing through.

He noted that the current economic downturn is not limited to Gombe or Nigeria but a global phenomenon.

According to him, “We are here today to launch the distribution of palliatives in Dukku Local Government Area in order to relieve the pains people are going through. Let me tell you that, the difficulty we are witnessing is a global phenomenon and not only happening in Nigeria”.

He added, “The Governor in his usual show of sympathy has provided for these interventions as an immediate and prompt response to assuage the pains of the people”.

He called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, to keep the fertilizer for the next farming season and where possible use it for the dry farming season.

In his remarks, the Chairman State Steering Committee for Distribution of Palliatives and Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency Alh. Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi explained that 2600 households shall benefit from the intervention in Dukku local Government Area, consisting of 10 households from the 260 polling units in the Local Government Area.

He also said that each beneficiary will go home with 2 bags of fertilizer, 2 litres of Agro-chemicals, a carton of spaghetti and 5 Kilograms of rice.

The Caretaker Chairman and Chairman Local Government Palliatives Committee, Alh. Jamilu Ahmed Shabewa said they have made adequate arrangements for successful distribution of the items appreciating the Governor for coming to the aid of the people.

The Emir of Dukku, Alh. Haruna Abdulkadir Rasheed expressed gratitude to the Governor for promptly intervening in the current economic crises by distributing palliatives to the people

He appealed to the people to be patient because the palliatives may not go round to all but only some of those who are considered in serious need are enlisted to benefit.

Some of the beneficiaries, Mustapha Musa and Nafisatu Hussaini, expressed their appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for coming to their aid with the interventions towards reducing their hardship, praying to God to bless the Governor and members of his cabinet.

The Deputy Governor and members of the team later paid a courtesy visit on the Emir of Dukku, where the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi sought the cooperation of the traditional Institution to forge ahead in meeting the aspirations of the people.

The Emir of Dukku pledged complete loyalty to the administration, charging his subjects to shun anything that will tarnish the image of traditional institution and the state at large as contained in a statement by Wilson Yakubu, Press Secretary/I.O Deputy Governor’s Office.
