The Peoples Democratic Party in Benue has slammed the state governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia for calling off the press conference to commemorate his 100 days in office.

Governor Alia had on Wednesday through his media aide, Kula Tersoo invited media practitioners in the state to press conference to commemorate his 100 days in office.

The deputy governor, Sam Ode who had also waited for hours for the event to take off later addressed journalists that the governor had called off the press conference because he was attending security meeting with APC governors on Zoom and afterwards would hold a maiden executive council meeting.

Reacting to the development, the PDP publicity secretary in the state, Bemgba Iortyom stated that the governor had nothing to showcase as achievements, hence, the call off of the press conference.

Iortyom stated, “Peoples Democratic Party in the state gathered that Governor Hyacinth Alia has shunned a scheduled press briefing to mark his first 100 days in office, and this the party observes only reinforces the open secret that his stewardship so far is a colossal failure bereft of any achievement to showcase publicly.

“The governor clocked 100 days in office yesterday, 5th September 2023, but with a take-office adjudged as the worst ever seen as the worst governor of the state since its creation, his first 100 days have been characterized at best be described as emptiness and disappointment.

Iortyom said that the governor was the one who had laid the template by which he should be assessed the 100 day mark when he promised to return to their homes persons displaced by killer Fulani herdsmen and also clear backlog of salaries and pensions arrears to workers and retirees.

“But 24 hours after the 100 days mark, the governor has shied away from coming public to render account of his stewardship, as IDPs are still in camps and workers suffering a worse fate under a voodoo system of arbitrary deductions from their pay cheques, demotions and unlawful termination of their employment contracts,” Iortyom said.
