Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has assured of his administration’s readiness to make local governments autonomous in the state.
The Governor stated this while speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit at Magajin Rafin Primary School, Tundun Wada area of Sokoto South Local Government Area on Saturday.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) preparations, which he said ensured the smooth conduct of the election.
He urged candidates to accept the outcome of the election in good faith and assured his readiness to work with all the candidates that emerge from the election to transform people’s lives for the better.
Speaking in his remarks after voting at Gidan Kara polling units in Wamakko Local Government Area, the former governor of the state and the state APC leader, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, said the high turnout of electorates indicated people’s acceptance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
He appealed to those who emerge as winners to consider the victory a call to serve and to ensure transparency in their dealings.
After casting his vote at his polling unit in Acida town, the APC chairman in the state, Isa Sadiq Acida, expressed his satisfaction with the state electoral committee.
He further expressed his satisfaction with the turnout of the people, noting the large numbers who came out to cast their votes.
He, however, reaffirmed his confidence in the candidates of the party to win the elections, attributing this to the performance of the state governor.
Meanwhile, the state chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Suleiman Aliyu, assured that the commission would ensure total transparency in the polls.
He said the commission opted for manual voting after noticing numerous complaints that followed the recent general election in the country.
He added that no fewer than 15 political parties are participating in the state local government elections.
