Gombe State government has expressed deep sorrow over the recent ugly incident in Powishi village, Billiri Local Government Area, leading to deaths and destruction of properties, offering heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the victims and their families.
The Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on behalf of the government and the entire people of Gombe State, conveyed his sympathy to all those affected by the tragedy.
Contained in a statement by Jack.A.Tasha, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, (Deputy Governor’s office), the Governor who spoke through a high-powered delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, visited the affected community, Powushi Shobbule, in Kalmai Ward on Monday, where they inspected the devastation, met with the people and handed over emergency relief interventions.
In his address the Governor said, despite the government’s continuous efforts to prevent such calamities, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced.
The state government assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to identify both the immediate and underlying causes of the event.
“The investigation will extend beyond Billiri, covering neighboring local government areas (LGAs) and even areas outside the state, in order to find a lasting solution to such incidents” he said.
Inuwa Yahaya added that “in response to the immediate needs of the victims, the government has allocated N5 million in assistance, along with essential relief items, including food, clothing, blankets, mats, mosquito nets, toiletries, and buckets. These measures aim to provide temporary relief until further support can be provided”.
He called upon the residents of Gombe State to uphold the peaceful, law-abiding nature the state is known for, also urging them to cooperate with security agencies and help identify any individuals who may be responsible for the incident, pointing out that in other cases, insiders have been found to be involved in such tragic events.
The Governor further stated that government emphasised the importance of timely and accurate reporting of any security concerns.
Law enforcement agencies in Gombe are committed to swiftly addressing any security issues, and residents are encouraged to engage with them to minimize potential harm.
While condoling the Mai Tangle in his palace the Governor urged them to accept the incident as one of the trials that must happen to human beings.
He stressed the need for the people to report suspecting activities and person’s to the security operatives in good time to forestall future occurrence. He also urged them to check the activities of their wards.
During the visit to Powushi, Kalmai, the Chairperson, Billiri Local Government Area, Mrs Eglah Idris took the delegation to the affected houses.
In her speech she appreciated the emergency relief materials and called on the people to avoid politicising the incidence but accept it as one of the trials that are bound to happen to humanity.
The District Head of Kalmai, Mr. Zubairu Ahmadu appreciated the government for prompt response and for coming to identify with them.

He appealed to the government for strict adherence to the rule that stops herders from crossing local government boundaries during harvest period to avoid farmer herders clashes.
The Representative of the Fulani Community in Tangale area, Alhaji Buba Abba said they have been living peacefully within the community and have never witnessed something like this and prayed God that something like this will never happen.
Receiving the delegation in his palace the Mai Tangle, Alh. Danladi Sanusi Maiyamba thanked the Governor for the show of love and concern shown to the people of his Chiefdom. He assured the government delegations of his loyally and certainty of fairness in sharing out the relief materials to the affected victims.
The Royal father, Danladi Sanusi Maiyamba, used the medium to appeal to the government to ensure cheating cattle route as one of the proferring remedies.
The items presented include, 250 bags of 25kg rice, 50 cartons of vegetable oil, 40 bags of salt, 200 bags of 10kg of maize.
Others included 10 belts of blankets, 10belts of nylon mats, 50 cartons of bathing soap, 100 pieces of plastic buckets, 10 belts of mosquito nets, 5 belts of women wrappers( atampa) and 5 belts of guinea brocade ( shadda).
