Worried about the state of the nation and the need for God to intervene, a Christian group Christian Intercessors Department (CID) has concluded plans to embark on a 72-hour marathon of prayers and fasting for peace, unity and progress, to seek God’s intervention in the affairs of Nigeria.
Addressing journalists while inaugurating the National Advisory Board (NAB) and the National Planning Committee (NPC) of the 72 hours of prayer on Thursday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of CID, Dr Liberty Okon, explained that the CID is an arm of the Joint Faith Peace Initiative whose sole purpose is to intercede for the nation.
He said Nigeria has consistently passed through thick and thin in her nationhood, with the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast, upsurge in banditry and kidnapping, heinous crimes and criminality, militancy in the Niger Delta region and many others biting hard on the nation’s security and infrastructure to mention but a few.
Okon said corruption which gives birth to poverty is at an alarming rate, the dip in the naira, inflation, and low productivity are ravaging the landscape of the nation.
“The Christian Intercessors Department (CID), is an arm of the Joint Faith Peace Initiative whose sole purpose is to intercede for the nation, of which prayer is our major weapon to destroy the works of the enemy, to establish, advance and safeguard the kingdom of God on the earth
“Our watchword is Ezekiel 22: 30-31; “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none: Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD”, he said.
Okon noted that due to some of the challenges the country is facing, a large number of our citizens are refugees in the country. He said internationally, foreign investors are wary of coming into the country to invest.
“Locally, many farmers are finding it difficult to engage in fanning activities because of the prevalent insecurity nationwide. This, increasing poverty and hunger in the land, hence the urgent call for the 72 Hours Marathon Prayer and Fasting urgent call for the 72 Hours Marathon Prayer and Fasting.
“Considering all that is mentioned above, the Christian Intercessors Department (CID) of the Joint Faith Peace Initiative (JFPI) in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has concluded arrangements to organize A 72-Hour Marathon Prayer and Fasting, for divine intervention in Nigeria, with the theme, ‘God Remember Nigeria in Mercy,” he noted.
The program according to him is designed to create a conducive spiritual atmosphere to enable the provoking of supernatural intervention in Nigeria.
“There shall be a Solemn Assembly which would form part of the last event of the program in line with 2 Chronicles 7:14 which says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land”.
“This 72-hour Marathon Prayer and Fasting is expected to serve as a veritable platform to stir up the burden to pray for Nigeria by all Christians. The program is designed to be replicated in all the states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT”, Okon stated.
While highlighting some of the objectives of the prayer, Okon said it will encourage men and women of prayer to engage in spiritual warfare stand in the gap, and intercede for our dear country, Nigeria.
“To encourage the making of the right spiritual atmosphere over Nigeria, especially in the areas of policymaking and the implementation.
“To support leaders and candidates with the fear of God to emerge the throne of power. Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. If we must carefully ponder on the scripture above, then we don’t have to blame anyone for the situation we find ourselves in today than our delay.
“In line with the scriptures, to support through prayer the leaders and government in power by organizing periodic prayers and solemn assembly”, he said.
He said that NAB’s assignment will be to guide and advise in the right direction, to recommend our efforts to people in the position of authority for partnership and support, and to stand in the gap for us as our own Joseph of Arimathea.
The NPC will liaise with the National Advisory Board for the best approach towards the success of the Movement, mobilize the general planning of the event, assist in identifying sponsors sad support, and recommend to the National Advisory Board for approval amongst others.
