The sociocultural organisation of indigenes of the Ilorin emirate, the Ilorin Emirate Concerned, has drawn the attention of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to the deterioration and mismanagement of properties of the state government.
In a statement by the chairman of the group, Alhaji Abdullah Mai Shanmari, deputy chairman, Ishaq Abdulsamad and secretary, Ali S.I. Agaka, the people described the situation of the properties as dire, adding that they are at a point of emergency.
The statement also said that the properties located both within the state and outside, for example, in Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and other regions, “are all suffering from neglect and are steadily falling into ruin”.
Titled ‘RE: Urgent Call To Action On The Deterioration and Mismanagement of Kwara State Government Properties’, the statement said that the state of emergency of the properties had left them vulnerable to encroachment by private individuals and corporate bodies, who are said to be gradually and illegally, seizing the government assets.
“Over 15 government-owned companies, located across 13 local government areas have been left in appalling conditions. Both the buildings and the heavy machinery and equipment within them have been abandoned to decay.
“Without urgent intervention, these assets face permanent, irreversible damage,” it said.
The Ilorin Emirate Concerned said that it is imperative that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq takes swift action to reclaim the assets on behalf of the people and halt misappropriation of state property, described the governor as a principled leader, “who has already proven himself to be the most effective governor in Kwara state’s history.
“Alarmingly, however, elements within the current administration appear to be following the same path of corruption of past government, as reports have surfaced, highlighting that some officials within the governor’s administration have begun to engage in the alleged sale of government properties.
“This issue was recently brought to light by the Ilorin Emirate Concerned, which formally presented the findings to the governor.
“In response, a committee was established, involving the Chief of Staff, the Senior Special Assistant on Security, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, and other notable officials, to investigate these reports.
“Despite these steps, however, no meaningful action has been taken to address this malpractice. The continued lack of decisive action to safeguard Kwara State’s assets not only endangers these properties but also undermines the integrity of this administration.
“If no immediate steps are taken, Ilorin Emirate Concerned will have no choice but to publicly name individuals implicated in the actions, including notable Emirs, Obas, politicians and influential figures within the state, who have been involved in the illegal sale of government assets.
“The people of Kwara state deserve transparent governance, and we are compelled to bring this issue into the public eye to demand accountability from those responsible..”
