Ahead of the November governorship election in Ondo state, a group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Special Interest Committee, has promised to deliver over 700,000 votes for the party’s candidate and the governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The group said it has constituted structures across the 18 local government areas, wards and units within the state in order to mobilise votes for Aiyedatiwa and ensure his victory.

The Chairman of the group, Biyi Poroye, said the group had embarked on a statewide enlightenment mobilisation campaign in all communities within the state

Poroye described the incumbent governor, Aiyedatiwa as a matured and tested hand who can quickly settle down to deliver dividends of democracy to the good people of the state.

According to him, Aiyedatiwa has been consistent, patient and genuinely concerned with the deep-rooted problems confronting the people of the state, assuring that the APC candidate will not fail the people of the state.

Poroye said, “No governor in the history of Ondo state has ever made 300,000 votes to win any election. The highest votes recorded is 273,000 votes but for this election we are sure of winning and not an ordinary win.

“We are going to lay a new foundation in the history of election in this state and the whole world will be stunned with the number of votes to be delivered.

“What we are expecting is nothing less than 700,000 votes and we need to do is to ensure at least 200 votes per unit.

” I want to assure you that the results of this governorship election will make President Tinubu to renegotiate with the people of the state.

He however, urged voters in the state to support Aiyedatiwa for his competence and quest to develop the state noting that the governor would place the state among the best in the country in terms of human capital and infrastructural development, equity, peace, justice and progress.

The State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, while commending the group, appealed to them to visit and mobilise voters from the grassroots through House to House campaign.

Adetimehin tasked the group and youths across the 18 local government areas of the state to work assiduously towards the victory of the party’s candidates in the elections.

He said, “I want to commend you and all the youths in the APC for your efforts towards ensuring victory for our party in the election. We all want a prosperous and secured state so we have to keep working towards achieving it.

“I am urging you all including other youths in the state to continue to canvass support for Aiyedatiwa so that he can emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections.

” The 700,000 target is achievable and I can see your determination to achieve this, we believe in you and we will support you. I want to implore you to move to all these communities and canvass for votes”

The State’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, appreciated the group for its gesture, describing the gesture as rare and hailed the members over their resolve target.

He said ” Go back to your ward, units and talk to people. Voters education and mobilisation is crucial and key now and I urge you to commence work immediately.

“I want to thank you for your support. It’s always good to define a goal and a target. When I first heard about the plan for 700,000 votes in this election, I did some calculations.

“It means we need about 177 votes per unit, or to be safe, let’s aim for 200 per unit.Is it possible? Yes, but we need to do things differently to achieve this result.

This means we need to double our efforts in mobilization, campaigning, and more. What we’ve done before won’t be enough. We need to move from house to house, because there are two types of people: those who watch and those who act.

Some people register to vote but stay away on election day. We need to reach these people in our local governments, wards, and units. Voter education is keyl at this time.

“Another thing that gives me confidence is that I don’t see much opposition anymore. They’ve been sufficiently decimated. With the message we are sending today, we are giving them a psychological defeat.

“By announcing our plan for 700,000 votes today, we are sending a strong signal, and many in the opposition will change their minds and flow with us. By the grace of God, come November 16, we will win with a landslide victory in Ondo state.”
