Gunmen today attacked an Army checkpoint located at the Abia/Imo boundary community of Ekenobizi in Umuopara, Umuahia South LGA, killing two soldiers.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu for the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA, the Army said: “In the early hours of today, November 13, 2024, troops of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA, deployed at a checkpoint along the Umuahia – Owerri Road in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, came under attack by the irredentist group of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
“During the attack, the gallant troops were able to repel the assault, forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray with gunshot wounds, abandoning one Sienna and one Lexus Jeep vehicle used in the attack. However, in the ensuing firefight, two soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice.

“The Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA is calling on the good people of the South East, especially residents of Abia State, to provide any relevant, reliable, and credible information that could help apprehend the fleeing members of the irredentist group responsible for this heinous crime, and assist in eliminating the criminals in the region.
