No fewer than four people were killed Tuesday evening in the Karu area of Nasarawa State.

The deaths of the four men were the result of a raid by gunmen suspected to be robbers, who raided a popular supermarket located in One Man Village at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

A resident, Adamu Jacob, who spoke to journalists at the scene of the incident, lamented the rising activities of criminals that have created apprehension across the state.

“Life is no longer safe in the state as criminals now operate anywhere, anytime. We are worried that the state has become a hideout for kidnapping, banditry, and all kinds of terrorist activities. We live like there are no security operatives any more.

He called on the state government to step up the security apparatus in the state to secure the safety of lives and property in Nasarawa State.

Another resident, a lecturer at the Federal University, Lafia, who preferred anonymity, lamented that she constantly lives in fear because the level of kidnapping in the institution is unabated.

“Many times this kidnapping happens to staff and is not reported. We are in trouble unless something quick is done. Some of my colleagues are leaving their jobs and seeking somewhere else because life at work is no longer safe.

Confirming the raid, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ranham Nansel, told our correspondent that the hoodlums invaded the supper market at 8.45 p.m. and shot and killed four.

“I wish to confirm that on January 2, 2024, at about 8:45 a.m., some hoodlums numbering about four attacked Wisdom supermarket at Adeyi Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State and killed four customers.

The PPRO said that the hoodlums opened fire on the customers, and as a result, four people were recovered and taken to the hospital, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor, and their corpses have been deposited at the Maraba Medical Centre.

He stated further that the commissioner of police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has directed the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the criminal investigation department in Lafia to move to the scene of the incident and carry out a comprehensive investigation into the case, adding that the outcome of the investigation will be made known.
