Unknown gunmen on Thursday morning killed a Point of Sale (PoS) operator, popularly known as Alfa Taofeek, in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.
This came barely three days after an Okada riders’ official was shot dead in the line of duty around the Okesa area of the state capital in broad daylight.
Tribune Online learnt that the PoS operator was killed in his shop located around the State Teaching Hospital while settling down for the day’s business transactions.
Sources at the scene revealed that the three-man assailants stormed the area at about 8 am on a motorcycle and opened fire on the man.
The attackers, who escaped from the scene unchallenged, made away with unspecified amounts of money and other valuables.
A source said, “The people came on Okada and shot at him from close range, killing him on the spot. He was a popular PoS agent in this area because he always had cash.
“They even took all his money and phones away because he was just settling down for the day’s operations as a PoS agent, you know they deal mostly with cash.
“The government must be alive to its responsibilities now because these killings are troubling now that it is happening in the state capital in broad daylight. We have had killings in this Ado-Ekiti in the last few weeks.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the killing and said the command has activated its tactical teams towards arresting the perpetrators.
The police spokesman urged the people of the state to go about their normal business activities, assuring them that the command would forestall future occurrences.
