Some supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris were seen leaving her election night watch party at Howard University in Washington, D.C. early Wednesday.
This development followed an announcement that the Democratic vice-presidential candidate would not be speaking until the following day.
The co-chair of Harris’ campaign, Cedric Richmond, announced early Wednesday morning that Vice President Harris would not address supporters at Howard University as the campaign awaited additional election results.
He said, “We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet. We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted. That every voice has spoken. So you won’t hear from the vice president tonight. But you will hear from her tomorrow.”
Shortly afterward, the vice president’s office announced a “lid,” signalling that no further public appearances were expected. Attendees at Howard University were then advised to begin leaving the venue.
Despite this, many supporters held out hope for a possible Harris victory, even as former President Trump appeared to be gaining ground, with Decision Desk HQ projecting him as the 47th President of the United States.
