Every first day of the year, individuals and organisations welcome the year with remarkable events. While some fete away, others show acts of kindness to those in need.

For a former deputy governor of Osun State and a former member of the Senate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, showing kindness to those in need is the best way to start the new year.

Putting the clouds of politics behind him, the former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the company of party faithful visited the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) Complex in Ile-Ife for the annual health care relief.

It was revealed that the APC chieftain spent paid million on healthcare relief in 2023 in his commitment towards community welfare.

While visiting the OAUTH Complex, Omisore, as he had done in the previous 19 editions, paid medical bills of indigent patients at the hospital, just as he provided them gifts.

It was not only the OAUTH that benefited from the humane gesture of the former Osun deputy governor. His humanitarian train also stopped over at Oranfe Orphanage Home, Ile-Ife where he lavished the children with gifts.

The OAUTH environment was agog with jubilations when Omisore stormed the venue in company of party loyalists and well-wishers.

It was revealed that over N6m was expended during the 19th edition for the year 2023.

This year makes it two decades since the politician had been alleviating the financial strain on patients and their families while indirectly touching the lives of countless citizens in his constituency and the broader Osun State community.

For about two decades, hundreds of patients have benefitted from the distribution of relief materials.

Omisore had said his visits to OAUTHC every year is a call from God to help the needy, which he said is an act of generosity, alluding to 1 Chronicles 29:14, which read: “But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!”

Appreciating the gesture, representatives of the hospital management, who took Omisore on a tour of the wards, presented to him patients with special cases whose hospital bills run into millions of naira.

Omisore instantly pledged to offset the bills for the patients to receive adequate medical attention.

The Osun State All Progressives Congress Chairman, Tajudeen Olaniyi, who was with Omisore at the event, described the experience as a proud moment.

“This morning, I had the pleasure of attending the annual health care relief organised by our esteemed leader, Senator lyiola Omisore. The event, which took place at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex in Ile Ife, is aimed at helping patients who are unable to pay their medical bills.

“I must say that Sen lyiola Omisore’s commitment to this cause is truly inspiring. He has been consistently supporting these patients for years, and his efforts have made a significant impact on their lives.

“Personally, it was a rewarding experience for me to be a part of this noble initiative. I am proud to be associated with a leader who genuinely cares about the welfare of the people,” he said.

Omisore also visited orphanages and welfare centres in the state to present gift items to the children and their caregivers.
