We have been looking at how to grow our leadership influence.
A fundamental ingredient in leadership is influence (affecting people’s beliefs and actions). Leadership is influence.
The more influence the more power.
- The more influence the more mobilization of people and resources.
- The more influence the more results
- The more influence the more rewards
- High influence – High results
- Low influence – Low results.
A leader must know how to grow his influence.
1.) Understand your leadership comes with influence. Influence is inherent in your position/office/status as a leader. Always operate with that consciousness. Expect your instructions to be carried out. Have faith in yourself and in your words.
“Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?” Ecclesiastes 8:4
2.) Let your communication be powered with accuracy, boldness and deliberateness. Avoid errors, mistakes and failure
3.) Be an authority in your field. Be competent. Be the answer to questions and solutions to needs. Be the go-to person to get the best answer.
4.) Be a model example to follow, standard to beat and a reference point
5.) Be competent.
6.) Avoid over-familiarity with your followers.
7.) Pray for
(a) Wisdom
(b) Favour
(c) Boldness. Confidence is vital.
“When you present your ideas with confidence, people listen. If you hem and haw, implying that you’re not sure about what you’re saying, no one else will be either. By doing your research, knowing what you’re talking about, and being prepared, you will find it much easier to project confidence and self-assuredness. Note: arrogance is not the same as confidence, and there can be a fine line between the two. Do not let justified confidence become unjustified arrogance.” Loebleadership.com
8.) Be a person of impeccable integrity
9.) Be empathetic and have a strong emotional intelligence
10.) Get better daily and be seen to so do.
11.) Be a delight to work with
- Be a man of your word.
- Be a stickler to rules but never be short of the milk of human kindness.
- Be courteous and appreciative.
“You become a motivational influencer when you encourage people and communicate with them on an emotional level. This process creates a bridge between you and others, while also building up their confidence and sense of self-worth. When people feel good about themselves during the times they’re with you, then your level of influence increases significantly.” John Maxwell
- Be goal-oriented and go-getter but also a humane person.
“The ability to influence people without irritating them is the most profitable skill you can learn. “ Napoleon Hill
