One of the hottest actresses in Nollywood, Lolade Okusanya, has spoken on how the box office movie, ‘IJAKUMO: ‘The Born Again Stripper’ made her.
A suspense thriller produced by Toyin Abraham with an ensemble cast, released December 23, 2022, reportedly raked in N137. 08 million in cumulative revenue as of January 10, 2023.
Lolade, a content creator was discovered by the movie producer and got the lead role of Ijakumo, which led to her fame.
The vivacious social media influencer revealed that the movie was the third production, she featured in by Toyin Abraham as she calls her.
She noted that she had been involved in contents creation for three years before she got the role.
“I want to thank God for this success. I love to write since my youth and have so many stories and it was this passion that led me to create content on social media, just talking about life issues, relationships, and how men break hearts using myself as an example and got many fans. From doing this on Watxapp, I moved to Instagram based on advice and wow the fan base increased geometrically.
“As a movie enthusiast, I reviewed two movies, including ‘Prophetess’ by Toyin Abraham, and got the attention of Niyi Akinmolayan, the director and later Aunty Toyin herself. It was my gift that prepared me and presented me to play the lead role in Ijakumo. But before Ijakumo, I had featured in ‘Listening Ears’, which is a movie on YouTube and the directorial debut of Toyin Abraham and another production of hers,” Okusanya said.
The acting career of Lolade had suddenly taken an upward trajectory, through Toyin, who gave her the chance, noting that the top actor-cum-producer is one of her role models in Nollywood alongside Mercy Johnson and a few others.
Meeting a great cast and veterans on the set of ‘Ijakumo’, has helped her to give her best and make her role believable.
Speaking on her personality, Lolade, who has two siblings and hailed from Ogun State, said: “My true person is the Instagram rant, the playful me. The ones you see in movies are characters. “First of all, I am not a born again and secondly, I am not a stripper. And then the other character they put me in is a toxic girlfriend.
“They like to put me in those characters because I am a playful and cruising person They like to cast me in the opposite of what I portray in life. I am energetic and carry those roles well.”
Lolade Okusanya has been featured in several productions since she made fame with the Ijakumo movie.
