The Adamawa State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Yahaya Adikwu, has identified human error as the leading cause of road crashes worldwide.
Adikwu, while speaking during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Yola, revealed that about 1.3 million people lose their lives in road accidents annually, with 90 percent of these incidents being attributed to human factors.
He emphasized that road safety should receive the same global attention as health issues, adding that new strategies are needed to address the crisis.

Adikwu suggested that motorists, particularly commercial drivers, should adopt practices similar to those used by pilots, which would help foster a sense of responsibility and trust between drivers and passengers.
Adikwu stressed the importance of value reorientation and promised that his administration would focus on changing driving habits for the benefit of all.
He also announced plans to hold a grand stakeholders meeting on Saturday, where a new action plan for road safety would be discussed.
