Tell us a bit about yourself…
My real name is Michael Boakye. I am a young rapper from Ghana. I had my basic school at Mary Star of the Sea in a town called Kasoa. I attended secondary school at University Practice Senior High School in Cape Coast and continued to the University of Education, Winneba. I am an only child. I am a Christian and come from the eastern region of Ghana.
What made you decide to do music?
Music has always been a passion since childhood. I loved to rap since I was a teenager and decided to try and write rap freestyles on my own. Anytime I rap any of my freestyles to my friends and colleagues, they would tell me to do it professionally because the raps I was doing were very good. So, I decided to take it serious and started making music as a profession.
Who are your musical mentors and why?
Sarkodie and Joey B are the people I have always looked up to. In my early days of making music, I was called Beezy. Beezy was Joey B’s nickname in the music industry. I looked up to him so much that I started using his nickname as my stage name. Sarkodie is the best. I also want to be the best so I really look up to him.
You are a rapper. What influences your music?
My music is influenced by what happens around me. What I see people go through and hear people talk about. The life experiences for other people and myself is what I put together to make my music. This makes my music very related to anybody who listens to it.
What do you intend to achieve with music?
As a musician, my goal with music is to connect with people on a deep emotional level, to evoke feelings and create a shared experience through sound. Music has this incredible power to bring joy, comfort, and inspiration to others, and that’s what I aim to achieve with my music.
Tell us about your songs. You also have an EP out. Which tracks would you say define who you are?
All the songs define me. Every song talks about a different aspect about life that i wanted to put out. All of these experiences are things I have been through myself.
What challenges do you presently face in the music industry and what, in your opinion, will help solve them?
My main problem is about how to attract traffic to my music in terms of social media. My content is put out on my platforms and have not been able to reach millions of people. That has been my main challenge over these past years
If you had the opportunity to feature anyone right now, who will they be and why?
It would be my role model, Sarkodie. I’ve always wanted to be on a song with him. Also, he is going to give me that exposure and introduce me to the world so that everyone knows the kind of talent I have.
What’s next for you?
More music. I will be releasing a lot of songs from time to time. Hip Hop and Afrobeats. I want to be very consistent with the way I will be bringing out new music. That is what I look forward to doing from now.
