AERONAUTICAL Information Management (AIMAN) has elected Dr Ibrahim Audu as its president.

Speaking with journalists after his election in Lagos, Dr Audu, who promised to ensure the licensing of AIMAN members during his tenure, lamented how the inability of the agency to license members all this while has become a source of worry to all concerned.

According to Audu: “We all know every professional department, every profession needs licence for them to have confidence in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.

“We have our products, AIS products that we provide to the end users, who are the end users, the pilots, the engineers and a host of others. These products are the AIP, the NOTAM we produce.

“These products must be available to ensure safe flights. There was need for us to be licensed so that even the public will have the confidence that the real professionals are the driving forces in the industry.”

Acknowledging the efforts of many of his predecessors at resolving the issue of licensing, Audu hinted that the constitution of AIMAN will be reviewed.

He added that the committee has been set up to see the grey areas where they can make amendments in order to suit the wishes and aspirations of their members geared toward achieving the aims and objectives of AIMAN.

On the issue of AIS automation, the new AIMAN President noted how in 2003, he met the issue of AIS automation which up till now has not changed.

“So for now, as it is, any effort to facilitate AIS automation, this association will make sure that it is supported, we can liaise with the management, since the automation is for the safety.

“So, I don’t know why the delay. We need to consider safety, safety today, safety tomorrow, safety always and we shall get a resolution, and the AIS automation shall be realised,” he added.
