Two persons have been confirmed dead while two others are still missing from the flood in parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed.
Many were also displaced as buildings, shops, properties worth millions of Nigeria were also destroyed as a result of the flood.
NEMA’s South West zonal coordinator, Mr Olanrewaju Kadiri made this disclosure, in a statement, after the NEMA and Red Cross teams conducted a flood assessment of the affected areas on Wednesday.
Kadiri stated that the flood affected Ibadan South West and Oluyole local government areas of the state capital.
He urged residents to take proactive steps as the rainy season was still ongoing.
The statement read: “Following the heavy downpour that led to flash flood in Ibadan South-West and Oluyole Local Government Areas of Oyo State which occured on 24th September, 2024.
“The NEMA South West Zonal Office in collaboration with Oyo SEMA and Nigeria Red Cross Society carried out an on the spot assessment of the affected communities.
“The flood disaster affected residential buildings, shops and properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed; many persons were also displaced.
“Unfortunately, two deaths were recorded while two persons are still missing.
“The South West zonal coordinator, Mr Olanrewaju Kadiri sympathizes with the affected persons and enjoins people to take proactive measures in this raining season.”
