The Women Leadership Conference 2024, convened by Ajanaku Teniola of Ibadan Ladies Hub, recently took place at the Maurve 21, Ring Road area of Ibadan and brought together women from diverse backgrounds to discuss and find solutions to various issues affecting their lives.

Keynote speaker, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, set the tone for the conference, emphasizing the importance of women’s leadership in driving positive change. The conference featured a range of topics, including business growth, politics, branding, family/relationship, media entertainment, and more.

Dr. Oluwatomi Owopetu, a public health physician, led a thought-provoking discussion on women’s health, emphasizing that “a woman’s health is her capital” (quoting Harriet Beecher). She stressed, “Your health issues are very important. Don’t overlook any changes you notice in your body.” Dr. Owopetu highlighted critical areas such as mental health, menstrual health, reproductive health, and general health concerns.

Dr. Funke Adetuberu, a therapist and family counselor, led a candid discussion on building strong foundations in relationships. She emphasized, “Love is blind, marriage is an eye-opener. Don’t say ‘I do’ without going for pre-marital counseling.” Dr. Adetuberu shared her personal experiences, stating, “Emotion is tangible; words wound us. Don’t allow words to wound you, and don’t be ashamed to talk about what hurt you.”

The conference also addressed the impact of addiction, trauma, and neglect on relationships. Dr. Adetuberu noted, “We are living in an addicted society; people are addicted to pornography, using it to clear their minds from past issues. This can lead to trauma, and when you’re wounded in your soul, you use addiction to medicate it.”

Attendees left the conference equipped with valuable insights and practical advice on maintaining healthy relationships, prioritizing emotional wellbeing, and addressing health concerns. The event demonstrated the power of collective discussion and support in advancing women’s leadership and empowerment.

The Women Leadership Conference 2024 was a resounding success, thanks to the efforts of Ajanaku Teniola and the Ibadan Ladies Hub. The event will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the lives of the women who attended, empowering them to become leaders and change-makers in their communities.
