Compensation is to be paid on properties affected by the establishment of the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Ididep community, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
A former Senator representing Uyo senatorial district in Akwa Ibom State, Senator Ita Enang made this known on Saturday when he hosted village heads and key leaders of Ididep community at his residence.
He said the community is set to receive compensation for the 94.927 hectares of land acquired by the Federal Government for the college.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the Akwa Ibom State government has officially handed over the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to the Federal Government, paving the way for the compensation process.
Senator Enang, who played a crucial role in attracting the college to the state, assured the community that the compensation package is part of the Federal Government’s plan to ensure that the establishment of the college benefits the community.
He said the institution is expected to bring job opportunities and economic growth to the area.
Speaking during the meeting, Provost of the College, Dr. Edem Ntuk, stated that the college is dedicated to being a good neighbour and partner in the development of Ididep community.
“The college is not just a place for academic learning, but also a catalyst for economic growth and social development in the community,” Ntuk said.
He highlighted the college’s plans to establish partnerships with local businesses, provide training and skills development programmes for community members and support local economic initiatives.
The college is set to commence academic activities soon, with focus on producing high-quality teachers and contributing to the development of the community.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Obong Eshiet Edet John expressed gratitude to Senator Enang for his efforts in bringing the project to fruition and urged him to do more for Ididep, Ibiono Ibom and Akwa Ibom State at large.
He commended Dr. Ntuk for his commitment to the community’s development, saying he aligns with their vision for a prosperous Ididep.
