Factional leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has noted that the non-protest in all parts of South East has proven that the people of the region are not the enemies of President Ahmed Tinubu-led government.
According to the Igbo group, the recent nationwide protests have stirred a wave of astonishment across the nation as the Southeast region recorded total compliance to the earlier position and directives not to get involved.
The Igbo Apex group disclosed this in a statement signed by its Secretary General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro on Thursday evening.
Isiguzoro noted that the people of South East were asked to boycott the protests based on historical sad experiences, fear of loss of lives and properties, ongoing infrastructural projects in the Southeast led by Senator David Umahi, and the demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
He then commended the people of the region for demonstrating unique resilience, boldness, firmness, and willpower to defy intimidation and manipulation by external detractors.
He also appreciated all the political leaders for their efforts to ensure neutrality in the protests.
“Ndigbo have spoken loudly through the absence of protests in the Southeast, showcasing a new unity and resolve to end external manipulation and bad influences.
“We call on Ndigbo to remain steadfast and resist pressures to join protests. The infrastructural revolution led by Senator Dave Umahi has rewritten the state of Federal Expressways in the Southeast, highlighting the progress being made.
“We also urge for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and the creation of an additional state for the Southeast to address political persecutions and grievances.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has seen that Southeast and Ndigbo are not enemies and should release Nnamdi Kanu as a gesture of goodwill. We anticipate more viable projects for the Southeast and hope for continued cooperation and understanding.
“Thank you to all Igbos for their perseverance, nerve, and resolve in this challenging time. Let us continue to stand together and work towards a better future for all.”
