The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has charged strategic managers in the Nigeria Police Force to improve their anti-crime strategies in order to drastically reduce crime in 2025.
During a virtual conference with tactical commanders, Commissioners of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and the Force Management Team, the IGP commended the efforts of officers in curbing crimes in 2024.
However, he emphasised the need for enhanced specialised training for investigators to handle complex cases.
The IGP also directed the implementation of additional training and reorientation courses for all police personnel, focusing on areas such as human rights, community policing, and ethical conduct.
To ensure consistent knowledge dissemination, the IGP ordered the implementation of weekly lectures across all levels of the Force.
“These lectures will serve as a platform for continuous professional development, ensuring that all police personnel remains informed of evolving legal frameworks, best practices in policing, technological advancements in law enforcement, and other pertinent developments that support the professional execution of their duties.
“The lectures will also provide an opportunity for interactive discussions and knowledge sharing among officers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Force,” he stated.
The Police have been charged to be proactive in their respective commands, maintain professionalism, and uphold public peace and order throughout the country.
The IGP emphasised that accountability at all levels is crucial to achieving these objectives, and supervisors will be held responsible for any misconduct of their subordinates.
