THE people of Iguovbiahianmwen village in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State have appealed to Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, to intervene in a dispute in the area.
Speaking during a peaceful protest to the palace of the Benin monarch in Benin City, Mr Iroghama Ekomwenrenren, accused the village head (Odionwwre) of Ehiozevbaru, Pa. Sunday Ediagbonya of colluding with neighbouring villages to balkanise Iguovbiahianmwen village without recourse to the oba.
He also accused him of installing a village head (Odionwere) in Ada Obadan settlement and a parallel (Ogue’edion), elders Porch, weeks after the village heard, according to him, has denied the allegation during his previous visit to the palace.
Ekomwenrenren, the second-in-command (Ozukpogieva) of the village, described the allegation development as aberrations to the Benin customs and tradition, hence their protest to the palace.
He appealed to Oba Ewuare II to urgently call the village head to order in order to avert crisis in the village.
Receiving the people on behalf of the palace, the Oyeoba of Benin, Chief Oghafua Oyeoba and Chief Uyi Okungbowa advised the protesters not to take laws into their hands and assured them that the palace will intervene on the issue.
Meanwhile, all attempts to reach the village head, proved abortive.
