RESIDENTS of Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to, as a matter of urgency, repair their township road which had become a deathtrap.

The people made the appeal while speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, lamenting the deplorable condition of the town’s roads, which have become a source of concern for commuters and businessowners.

The road, which connects the town with other neighbouring communities, has been in a state of disrepair for many years, causing untold hardship for the inhabitants and other road users.

A trader, who plies the road on a daily basis, Mrs Funmilayo Adeniyi told Nigerian Tribune that the road had become a deathtrap, adding that the condition of the road also affects the socioeconomic activities of the area.

Also speaking, a community leader, Mr. Kayode Oyedele said their children could not get to school on time whenever there was rain, saying the transport system in the community has become something else.

The people noted that the state government has, on many occasions, promised to repair the road, yet has not fulfilled its promise.

“We are tired of promises. We need urgent intervention to save our people from this suffering. If the road is fixed, it will boost economic activities, create jobs and stimulate development.

“We are not asking for too much. We only want the government to help fix our roads so that we in Ijebu-Igbo can live a decent life,” the people said.
