Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, has vowed to end the era of godfatherism in the state’s political landscape.
Ukachukwu made this declaration after emerging as the APC’s candidate in the party’s primary election held at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center in Awka. He was declared winner after polling a total of 1,455 votes out of 1,630 cast.

In his post-election speech on Sunday, Ukachukwu emphasized a new approach to leadership, promising to lead with sincerity and inclusiveness. “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here, nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before.

“I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father, no more godfather
Ukachukwu, a well-known businessman and real estate magnate, said his decision to drop the role of godfather was driven by a desire to mentor the next generation of leaders and promote unity within the party.
“What Anambra needs now is purposeful leadership, not power play. I want to lead, not from behind the curtain, but from the front—openly, responsibly, and with the people,” he added.
He called on all members of the APC, including those who contested against him, to come together and work as a united front ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
